Michael Tezyan

Michael Tezyan is an associate in the Litigation group at Irell & Manella LLP, focusing on intellectual property litigation, including patent disputes and Patent Office Trials. His practice spans various technology areas, with experience in cases involving computer memory technology and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display technology. His background includes a B.S. in Chemistry, and prior to law school, he worked as a laboratory technician at a fuel cell research and development startup and advised a biotechnology startup on patent matters.

While his tracked appearance indicates a role as defense counsel in Unified Patents v. Pictiva Displays International Ltd, Tezyan has also contributed to significant plaintiff-side patent litigation successes as part of Irell & Manella's trial teams. Notably, he was on the Irell team that secured a $191.4 million patent infringement verdict for Pictiva Displays International Ltd. against Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. related to OLED display technology in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The firm also obtained multi-million dollar verdicts for Netlist Inc. against Samsung ($303 million) and Micron Technology Inc. ($445 million) in cases concerning computer memory technology, with Tezyan included on the trial teams.

He is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Tezyan earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 2020, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif, and holds a B.S. in Chemistry, summa cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles.
