Michael R. Dokhanchy

Michael R. Dokhanchy (also known as Reza Dokhanchy) is an accomplished patent and trade secret litigator at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, where he joined as a Member (Partner) in May 2023, having previously been an intellectual property partner at Kirkland & Ellis. He represents both plaintiffs and defendants in high-tech and life sciences patent disputes. His practice areas span a wide range of technologies, including cellular communications, Wi-Fi, internet and computer networking, semiconductors, wearable electronics, computer architecture, computer vision and modeling, emergency systems, electronic surveillance systems, automotive systems, consumer electronics, fintech, and MRI technology.

Mr. Dokhanchy's experience includes significant roles in cases involving semiconductor companies and consumer electronics. He has represented Marlin Semiconductor Limited as a plaintiff against Apple et al. in district court, and as the Patent Owner in multiple Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings initiated by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited. His notable litigation achievements include securing a $765 million jury verdict for Motorola in trade secret and copyright litigation and a $125 million jury win for EagleView in patent litigation. He also represented Cisco in successful ITC and PTAB actions concerning internet and computer networking technology, which led to multiple exclusion orders against a competitor. Additionally, he was part of a Mintz team that achieved a significant defense victory for Juul Labs at the US International Trade Commission.

Mr. Dokhanchy regularly appears before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), arguing hearings and motions in IPR panels. His IPR experience includes representing patent owners like Marlin Semiconductor Ltd. and defending companies such as Honda against Intellectual Ventures. He holds a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and M.S.E.E. and B.S.E.E. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of California – Los Angeles, where he graduated cum laude. He is admitted to the State Bar of California.
