Michael P. Sandonato

Michael P. Sandonato is a seasoned patent litigator and co-chair of the IP Litigation - Technology Group at Venable LLP. His practice focuses on a wide array of technology areas, including digital cameras, laser toner cartridges, smartphones, dental imaging systems, graphical user interfaces, and financial products. He has extensive experience serving as lead counsel in patent disputes before U.S. district courts nationwide, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and in arbitrations. His work also includes contested proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

While the tracked case list shows a single appearance as lead counsel for the defendant in Neomedia Technologies, Inc. v. Symbol Technologies, Inc., Sandonato's broader practice description indicates he is adept at representing both patent owners and accused infringers. His representative matters include serving as lead counsel for Canon in the enforcement of its laser printer patents and defending Sirona Dental Systems.

Sandonato is a partner with Venable in its New York and Los Angeles offices. Prior to joining Venable in 2018, he was a partner at the intellectual property boutique Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto, where he was a member of the Management Committee and chaired the firm's Electronics and Computer Technologies Practice Group.

He earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1992, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1989, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the New York University Tandon School of Engineering in 1987.
