Micah Block

Micah Block is a highly experienced patent litigator and a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation group at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, where he also serves as the hiring partner for Northern California. His practice focuses on complex intellectual property disputes, including major patent, trade-secret, and antitrust matters. Block's expertise spans a broad range of technology sectors, notably representing clients in the technology and software industries, as well as financial institutions and medical technology companies. His client roster has included prominent names such as Cisco, Comcast, JPMorgan, Novo Nordisk, Meta, WhatsApp, Magnolia Medical Technologies, and Verisk.

Block demonstrates versatility in his representation, handling cases for both plaintiffs and defendants. While the tracked case shows a plaintiff-side appearance as appellate counsel, his broader practice includes securing significant victories for both patent holders and accused infringers. For instance, he co-led trial victories for Magnolia Medical Technologies as both plaintiff and counterclaim defendant against its sole competitor, including proving infringement and securing a 17.7% royalty. He also secured a $168 million jury verdict and a landmark summary judgment decision for Meta and WhatsApp in a federal suit against NSO Group concerning spyware attacks. On the defense side, he has achieved numerous successful outcomes for Comcast in patent litigations brought by Rovi Corporation and Sprint Communications, including obtaining an offensive verdict as a patent holder for Comcast that was affirmed by the Federal Circuit, and a complete defense victory, also summarily affirmed by the Federal Circuit.
