Specialty & background

Matthew Sieger is an experienced patent litigator focusing on complex intellectual property disputes across diverse technology sectors. His practice encompasses district court litigation, ITC Section 337 investigations, inter partes review proceedings, arbitration, and appeals. His technical experience spans pharmaceuticals, drug delivery devices, and biologics manufacturing, as evidenced by his work on biosimilar patent cases. He also handles patents related to e-vapor devices, autonomous driving systems, IoT security, streaming platforms, internet advertising, 3D scanning, and robotic surgical instruments.

Sieger demonstrates versatility by representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent matters. He served as lead counsel for plaintiff Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in its multi-patent dispute against Celltrion, Inc. concerning EYLEA® biosimilars, a case that was ultimately dismissed without prejudice. He has also represented defendants, including Sandoz Inc., in patent litigation. Notably, he was part of the Paul, Weiss team that successfully secured a Federal Circuit affirmance of a judgment awarding Altria more than $95 million in damages for e-vapor patent infringement against R.J. Reynolds.

Currently an intellectual property litigator at WilmerHale, Mr. Sieger gained significant experience at other international law firms, including Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. His practice includes active involvement in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings. For instance, he was listed as counsel for Altria Client Services LLC in an IPR where the Patent Trial and Appeal Board declined to institute review against the asserted patent.

Mr. Sieger is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He earned his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in 2016 and holds a B.S. and B.M.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University, awarded in 2010.
