Matthew Rizzolo

Matthew Rizzolo is a seasoned patent litigator with a practice focused on complex intellectual property disputes, particularly in the technology and life sciences sectors. He handles cases across a wide array of technical fields, including smartphones, video gaming devices, computer software and hardware, telecommunications, Internet-related services, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals. Rizzolo is experienced in both enforcing and defending clients' intellectual property rights, with his tracked case demonstrating a role representing defendants.

As of January 2026, Mr. Rizzolo is a partner in the intellectual property litigation practice at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, based in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, he was a partner at Ropes & Gray, where he led the firm's Section 337 practice before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

His notable experience includes representing Roku, Inc. as a defendant in VideoLabs, Inc. v. Roku, Inc., a case in the District of Delaware involving seven patents related to video coding, wireless content distribution, and device provisioning. This case was dismissed with prejudice by joint stipulation in December 2024. Rizzolo also has significant experience in ITC investigations, having served as lead counsel for respondents in an unfair competition investigation brought by RJ Reynolds, successfully securing the non-institution of certain claims. He is also well-versed in proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Mr. Rizzolo is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He earned his law degree from The George Washington University Law School in 2008 and was admitted to practice law in 2009.
