Matthew C. Juren

Matthew C. Juren is an intellectual property attorney whose practice focuses on patent infringement litigation, inter partes review (IPR), and patent prosecution. He handles a broad range of technologies, including high-definition televisions, cellular phone systems, wireless protocols, medical devices, and oilfield exploration and production tools and processes, as well as electronic technologies such as microprocessors, memory systems, and digital signal and image processing. His experience also extends to securing and enforcing trademarks and copyrights, and assisting clients with trade secret protection.

In his litigation practice, Mr. Juren primarily represents patent owners as defendants. In the single tracked appearance, United Services Automobile Association v. Auto Telematics Ltd., he served as lead counsel for Auto Telematics Ltd., the patent owner defending against an IPR challenge related to vehicle telematics technology. He is a partner at Stephens Juren PLLC, a Houston-based firm where he leads the patent and trademark practice. Prior to co-founding Stephens Juren, PLLC, he practiced intellectual property law for over 14 years at firms including Nelson Bumgardner Albritton P.C., Matthews Lawson, PLLC, CEP IP, and Stephens | Domnitz | Meineke, PLLC.

Mr. Juren possesses significant experience in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), having presented numerous oral arguments there. His work in IPRs is a key component of his practice, as evidenced by his role as lead counsel for the patent owner in United Services Automobile Association v. Auto Telematics Ltd. (IPR2025-00812). He has also argued as first chair at several patent claim construction hearings and presented numerous oral arguments to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Admitted to practice in Texas and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Juren is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Northern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Houston Clear Lake and his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center. He has been practicing IP law since 2001 and is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO.
