Kenneth H. Ohriner

Kenneth H. Ohriner is a seasoned patent litigator and counselor with over 30 years of experience, currently a Partner at Perkins Coie LLP. His practice encompasses patent counseling, procurement, and litigation, advising clients on a range of intellectual property matters including patent portfolio development and management, and conflict resolution. Prior to Perkins Coie, he was a partner at Lyon & Lyon LLP.

Mr. Ohriner frequently represents defendants in patent infringement disputes. His tracked cases, including one as lead counsel at Perkins Coie, consistently show him on the defendant side. He has successfully defended clients against claims of patent infringement, as exemplified by a directed verdict in favor of Sempra Energy in a case involving earthquake gas shutoff valves. He also acted as lead counsel in Idexx Laboratories Inc. v. Abaxis Inc., a matter involving false advertising and trademark infringement for veterinary diagnostic equipment, which resulted in a stipulated injunction.

A significant portion of Mr. Ohriner's practice involves post-grant patent proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). He has particular experience with Inter Partes Review (IPR) and Post-Grant Review (PGR), often in parallel with patent litigation. Notably, he has successfully defended patents by achieving petition denials at the preliminary response stage in multiple IPRs and has resolved others through negotiated settlements.

Mr. Ohriner is admitted to practice in California, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He earned his J.D. from St. John's University School of Law and holds a B.E. in Engineering from Stony Brook University.
