Kate M. Saxton

Kate M. Saxton is a Special Counsel in the Litigation/Controversy Department and a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr. She joined the firm in 2002 and became counsel in 2009.

Her practice encompasses a diverse range of intellectual property matters, primarily focusing on patent disputes. She has experience across various technology areas, including pharmaceuticals, mobile communications, integrated circuits, light-based dermatological applications, water treatment systems, digital imaging, and video compression. Her case experience, including the Skyworks Solutions, Inc. v. Kangxi Communication Technologies Shanghai Co., Ltd. et al. litigation, highlights her involvement with patents related to radio frequency (RF) technology.

Based on available case data, Ms. Saxton primarily represents plaintiffs in patent litigation. For example, she served as Lead Counsel for Skyworks Solutions, Inc. in its patent infringement case against Kangxi Communication Technologies Shanghai Co., Ltd. and others. In this matter, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) issued an Initial Determination finding no infringement for Kangxi on two asserted patents, and Skyworks subsequently withdrew its remaining claims in both the ITC investigation and parallel U.S. District Court lawsuits.

Ms. Saxton's experience also extends to proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). In relation to the Skyworks v. Kangxi dispute, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Director issued a discretionary denial of institution for IPR petitions filed by Kangxi against Skyworks' patents, a process in which her client, Skyworks, was involved as the patent owner. She is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She earned her JD from Boston University School of Law in 2002, cum laude, where she was a Note Editor for the Boston University Law Review, and her BA from Stetson University in 1999, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
