Karen I. Boyd

Karen I. Boyd is a distinguished patent litigator with extensive experience in diverse technological fields, currently serving as a Partner in the Intellectual Property & Technology Litigation practice group at Thompson Hine. She joined Thompson Hine in January 2026, when the firm absorbed Turner Boyd Seraphine, an IP litigation boutique she co-founded in 2008 (originally as Turner Boyd). Prior to founding her own firm, Ms. Boyd honed her expertise at Fish & Richardson P.C., where she held principal and associate positions from 1997 to 2007, and served as a law clerk for the Honorable Paul Michel at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Ms. Boyd's practice areas primarily encompass patent disputes, with a strong focus on technically complex matters. Her academic background, including a master's degree in molecular biology from UCLA, underpins her ability to handle sophisticated cases in life sciences and high technology. She has represented clients in matters involving gene therapy, non-invasive pre-natal and cancer testing, DNA-encoded libraries for small molecule drug discovery, transgenic animals for Alzheimer's research, microfluidic platforms for antibody discovery, and medical devices. Her experience also extends to consumer electronics and semiconductor technology, notably representing Infineon Technologies in a patent infringement dispute concerning gallium nitride (GaN) technology, which led to a U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) investigation.
