Julianne Thomsen

Julianne Thomsen is a patent litigation attorney at Avantech Law, LLP, focusing on complex patent and trade secret disputes. Her practice encompasses a diverse range of technologies, including life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, consumer electronics, semiconductors, and automotive systems such as vehicle connectivity and infotainment.

Thomsen primarily represents plaintiffs in patent enforcement actions, as evidenced by three of her four tracked appearances. She has achieved significant success in this role, including securing a $1.25 billion settlement for ViiV Healthcare in a case involving an HIV drug patent and playing a key role in a $273 million jury verdict for biotech firm Ravgen in disputes concerning non-invasive prenatal testing and liquid biopsy. She also has experience defending clients against patent infringement allegations, including a major consumer electronics company.

Her notable case work includes representing AutoConnect Holdings LLC as plaintiff and lead counsel in patent infringement litigation against Ford Motor Company and Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America Inc. et al. The case against Ford Motor Company is currently stayed pending resolution of multiple inter partes review (IPR) and ex parte review proceedings at the USPTO, where Thomsen represents AutoConnect Holdings LLC as the patent owner. She also represents AutoConnect Holdings LLC in a post-grant review (PGR) proceeding initiated by Toyota Motor Corp.

Thomsen earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2018 and holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Yale University, where her graduate research led to a U.S. patent.
