Joseph S. Heino

Joseph S. Heino is a highly experienced intellectual property attorney, currently serving as a Partner and Chair of the Intellectual Property Service Group at Amundsen Davis, LLC. His practice broadly encompasses patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret law, and related licensing and franchising matters. Heino's technical proficiencies span a wide array of electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical technologies. Specifically, he handles intellectual property issues involving scientific and medical devices, electrical and electronic devices, metal ionization methods and devices, energy conservation techniques, automated machining, computer software and peripherals, and innovative business methods.

In patent litigation, Heino's experience includes advising clients on strategies to assert and defend against infringement claims, as well as preparing non-infringement analyses and opinions. While his firm's IP litigation team represents both plaintiffs and defendants, a tracked appearance lists him as of counsel on the plaintiff side in VPR Brands, LP v. HQDTech USA LLC et al. at Schneider Rothman Intellectual Property Law Group. His experience also includes successfully resolving disputes such as defeating service mark infringement claims and negotiating favorable settlements for trade dress infringement claims. Amundsen Davis's IP attorneys are also skilled in representing clients before administrative tribunals, including the U.S. Patent and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Prior to his current role at Amundsen Davis (formerly Davis|Kuelthau, s.c.), Heino has dedicated decades to intellectual property law. He is a registered U.S. Patent Attorney and is admitted to practice in all state and federal district courts in Wisconsin, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Heino earned his J.D. from Marquette University Law School and a B.S.E.E., magna cum laude, from Marquette University.
