Jordan R. Jaffe

Jordan R. Jaffe is a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, specializing in high-stakes intellectual property disputes, encompassing patent, trade secret, copyright, and trademark litigation. Leveraging his background in computer science, he focuses on emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous vehicles. His experience spans complex technical areas such as touch screen sensor design, cryptography, network security, business intelligence software, graphical user interfaces, object-oriented programming, and wireless network design.

Jaffe's practice demonstrates a balanced approach to representation, working for both plaintiffs and defendants in patent matters. He has represented operating companies such as Guardant Health, Inc. as both lead plaintiff's counsel in patent infringement actions related to cancer diagnostics and as defense counsel against Tempus AI Inc.. He also defended Fortinet, Inc. in a cybersecurity patent dispute against Palo Alto Networks, Inc. and DISH Technologies LLC in patent litigation concerning multimedia content filtering. Notably, he has also appeared as of counsel for Lepton Computing LLC, a non-practicing entity, in a patent infringement suit against Samsung Electronics America Inc. et al. concerning foldable smartphone technology.

Significant engagements include representing Waymo LLC (formerly Google's self-driving car program) in a high-profile trade secret and patent infringement trial against Uber Technologies, Inc. in 2017, and securing a complete jury victory as lead trial counsel for microtransit leader Via Transportation in a patent litigation competitor case. He also obtained summary judgment of invalidity on Section 101 grounds for a patent asserted against Google's search-related functionality. In the DISH Technologies case, related IPR proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) saw a discretionary denial of institution for the petitioner.

Prior to joining Wilson Sonsini in October 2021, Jaffe was a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, where he chaired the autonomous vehicle practice. He holds a J.D., cum laude, from the University of San Francisco School of Law (2007) and a B.A. in Computer Science and Politics from Lake Forest College (2004). He is admitted to the State Bar of California and practices before various U.S. District Courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
