Jonathan Sanders

Jonathan Sanders is Counsel in the Litigation Department at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he focuses his practice on patent litigation. He has extensive experience managing complex cases in federal district courts, litigating appeals at the Federal Circuit and the United States Supreme Court, and handling proceedings before the Patent and Trademark Office and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Mr. Sanders primarily represents operating companies as a defendant in patent disputes. His client roster includes major technology companies such as Cisco, AncestryDNA, Marvell, MediaTek, 3Com, SiRF, Avistar Communications, Intel, and Verizon. His work covers diverse technology areas, including Wi-Fi, applications, genetic testing, and multicore processors, as exemplified by his defense of MediaTek in Redstone Logics LLC v. MediaTek, Inc. et al.

His notable experience includes leading several large patent litigations and achieving trial wins for Cisco and other technology companies. He has also second-chaired a significant commercial trial and first-chaired trials at the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. He frequently argues claim construction hearings, motions to dismiss, and other pretrial matters in complex patent cases.

Mr. Sanders earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2003, graduating with distinction, and his B.A. in English Literature from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2000, where he graduated in the top three percent of his class. He was admitted to the California Bar in 2003 and the Northern District of California in 2004.
