Jonathan B. Bright

Jonathan B. Bright is a patent litigator at Fish & Richardson, where he was elevated to principal effective January 1, 2024. His practice focuses on protecting clients' complex technologies across various U.S. district courts and before the International Trade Commission (ITC). He handles a wide range of electrical and computer technologies, including telecommunications, display and image sensors, computer memory, mobile operating systems, graphical user interfaces, and front-end radio architecture. Bright also possesses experience with standard-essential technologies such as 5G, 4G LTE, 802.11 (Wi-Fi), and Bluetooth standards.

Bright primarily represents operating companies as a defense counsel. His tracked appearances include defending Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. in Smart Mobile Technologies LLC v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. et al. (W.D. Tex.). He has also served as counsel for defendants like Micron Technology in EMS Techs., LLC v. Micron Tech, Inc. and Guardian Industries Corp. in DiamondOP, LLC v. Guardian Indus. Corp.. While largely defense-oriented, he has also represented operating companies in assertive roles, such as counsel for counterclaim plaintiff Samsung in TiVo, Inc. v. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. et al. and for plaintiff Huawei in Huawei v. T-Mobile, a dispute involving 3GPP standard-essential technology.

Among his notable achievements, Bright secured a closely watched ITC patent infringement victory for an optical electronics manufacturer and its customer, leading to the exclusion of digital cameras from the U.S. market. His experience extends to post-grant proceedings, as he handles petitions filed before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), including Inter Partes Review (IPR).

Bright earned his J.D. cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2014. He also holds an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering (2011) and a B.S. with highest honors in Electrical Engineering (2010), both from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is admitted to the State Bar of Georgia and several federal district courts.
