Jonathan A. Cox

Jonathan A. Cox is a highly experienced patent litigator at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, focusing his practice on complex intellectual property disputes for prominent technology and life sciences companies. He represents clients in federal district courts and before the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) in Section 337 investigations.

Mr. Cox's practice spans a wide range of technologies, including microprocessor design and fabrication, telecommunications standards, mobile communication devices (transceivers, antennas, video codecs), cryptography, and smart utility meters. In the life sciences sector, he handles litigation concerning therapeutics such as antiretrovirals for HIV, ferric citrate treatments for anemia, and cancer therapies. His track record demonstrates a strong defense-side preference, consistently representing operating companies, as evidenced by his appearances in tracked cases, including WinView IP Holdings, LLC v. DraftKings, where he served as lead counsel for the defendant.

His notable experience includes achieving favorable settlements in various global patent disputes, ITC investigations, and district court litigations across his diverse technology areas. Furthermore, Mr. Cox possesses significant experience in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, having secured a summary affirmance by the Federal Circuit of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board's invalidation of patents related to data processing technology.

Mr. Cox earned his JD, cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2013, where he served as an executive editor of the Harvard Law Review, and his AB, magna cum laude, from Harvard College in 2010. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. Prior to joining WilmerHale, he clerked for the Honorable Mark L. Wolf of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
