Jeffrey K. Sherwood

Jeffrey K. Sherwood is an accomplished patent litigator with extensive experience representing clients in complex intellectual property disputes. His practice focuses on patent infringement and trade secrets litigation. He has managed a diverse array of technology cases, including those involving semiconductor circuits, nuclear power systems, textile processing, and telecommunications. Additionally, his experience extends to disputes concerning misappropriation of trade secrets, theft of domain names, and other internet technologies.

Sherwood has demonstrated experience on both sides of the "v.", having served as lead trial counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants. The National Law Journal has recognized his patent defense verdicts twice and a patent plaintiff's verdict once in its annual reviews of top verdicts in the United States. While tracked as Lead Trial Counsel for the plaintiff in I/P Engine, Inc. v. AOL, Inc. et al. at Dickstein Shapiro, he has also secured defense victories in cases such as Areva, N.P. v. The Babcock & Wilcox Company and St. Clair Intellectual Property Consultants v. Toshiba Corporation.

Currently, Mr. Sherwood serves as Senior Counsel in Venable's Intellectual Property Litigation Practice in Washington, DC. Prior to this, he was Of Counsel at Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP, joining in August 2020. Earlier in his career, he was a partner at Dickstein Shapiro LLP and held leadership roles as practice group leader for Intellectual Property and Technology at multiple national law firms. Mr. Sherwood earned his J.D. from Stanford University in 1979 and his A.B. from Colby College in 1975. He is admitted to practice in Virginia (1979), the District of Columbia (1984), and Texas (1998).
