Jeffrey D. Harty

Jeffrey D. Harty is a seasoned patent litigator and registered patent attorney at Nyemaster Goode, P.C., where he also serves as President of the firm. His practice focuses on intellectual property disputes, representing clients in a range of technologies including software, mechanical and electrical technologies, renewable energy, biofuels, and environmental technology. Harty's professional background includes nearly two decades at McKee, Voorhees & Sease, PLC, before joining Nyemaster Goode.

While his general practice includes representing both patent holders and accused infringers, his tracked case history predominantly features plaintiff-side representation, with four recorded appearances for plaintiffs and none for defendants. He served as lead counsel for DISH Technologies L.L.C. and Sling TV L.L.C. in DISH Technologies L.L.C. et al. v. Vidgo, Inc., a case involving patents related to multi-bitrate content streaming or adaptive bitrate technology. He also acted as local counsel in multiple cases for Midwest Energy Emissions Corp., a company focused on mercury emissions reduction technologies, which secured a $57 million patent infringement verdict in a related matter in March 2024.

Harty's practice also extends to post-grant proceedings, with experience in Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). He is admitted to practice in Iowa, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and in various federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. He earned his B.S. in Industrial Engineering with distinction from Iowa State University in 1991 and his J.D. with high distinction from the University of Iowa in 1995.
