Jeannine Yoo Sano

Jeannine Yoo Sano is a seasoned patent litigator with extensive experience in a broad range of technology fields. Her practice encompasses mobile communications, video processing, graphics, operating systems, CPUs, chipsets, memory, LCD manufacturing, and medical devices, with a significant focus on computer hardware and software cases. Sano represents both plaintiffs and defendants in patent and trade secret disputes, reflecting a balanced approach to her litigation practice.

Currently an Of Counsel at Venable LLP, Sano joined the firm in March 2025. Prior to Venable, she was with Axinn Veltrop & Harkrider LLP, and her tracked appearance shows her as an Of Counsel at White & Case LLP in 2018.

A notable case includes her representation of Google LLC in the Federal Circuit appeal of Google LLC v. Personal Audio, LLC. In this matter, Google, as the appellant, challenged Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) decisions concerning patents related to audio program players and distribution systems, with the Federal Circuit ultimately affirming the PTAB's rulings. Sano is recognized for her trial successes in district courts and before the International Trade Commission (ITC), and has prevailed on appeals before both the Federal Circuit and the California Court of Appeal, including an instance that resulted in the affirmance of summary judgment and an award of attorneys' fees in a Uniform Trade Secrets Act case.

Sano is also active in post-grant proceedings, handling Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs) and Covered Business Method (CBM) reviews before the PTAB, as well as subsequent appeals to the Federal Circuit. Her engagement in this area is further evidenced by her publications on the USPTO's discretionary denial process for IPRs. She earned her J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of Law and an A.B. with honors in human biology from Stanford University, and is admitted to the State Bar of California.
