Jay Zhu

Jay Zhu, Ph.D., is an Associate at Fish & Richardson P.C., based in their Silicon Valley office. His practice is primarily focused on patent law within the life sciences sector. He handles patent drafting, prosecution, counseling, and opinion work, with particular expertise in areas such as cancer and immunological diseases, including inventions relating to antibodies, cell therapies (e.g., CAR-T), cell culture, liposomes, circRNA, and drug formulation. He also works with clients in the manufacturing industry.

Mr. Zhu's litigation experience includes representing clients on the plaintiff side in patent disputes. In the tracked case, Eunsung Global Corp. v. HydraFacial LLC, he appeared as counsel for Eunsung Global Corp. This dispute involved patents related to hydrodermabrasion devices and methods. While Eunsung Global Corp. was a defendant in related district court and International Trade Commission (ITC) proceedings initiated by HydraFacial LLC, where a consent judgment and permanent injunction were issued against Eunsung and others, Mr. Zhu's tracked appearance for Eunsung was in the context of inter partes review (IPR) proceedings at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), where Eunsung acted as the petitioner challenging HydraFacial's patents.

Mr. Zhu is actively involved in PTAB proceedings. He represented Eunsung Global Corp. as the petitioner in multiple IPRs against HydraFacial LLC, including IPR2024-01491, where institution was denied, and IPR2025-00445, which was terminated due to a global settlement between the parties.

Admitted to practice in California (2018) and New York (2017), Mr. Zhu is also registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (2023). He earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 2016, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2013, and a B.S. in Biotechnology from Wuhan University.
