Jason G. Sheasby

Jason G. Sheasby is a highly recognized patent litigator and partner at Irell & Manella LLP, where he has practiced since 1999. His patent litigation practice spans a broad array of technologies, including semiconductors, telecommunications (e.g., 4G LTE), computer memory and data storage systems (e.g., FinFET, erasure coding), electronics, software, medical devices, and bio/pharmaceuticals. Sheasby maintains a balanced practice, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in complex, high-stakes intellectual property disputes, with an equal number of tracked appearances on each side.

Sheasby has a distinguished track record of securing significant verdicts and favorable outcomes. He served as co-lead counsel for Netlist, Inc., obtaining a $303.15 million jury verdict against Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. for computer memory technology, which included a finding of willful infringement. He also secured a $400 million jury verdict for KAIST in a patent infringement trial against Samsung, GlobalFoundries, and Qualcomm involving bulk FinFET technology. Other notable plaintiff-side victories include a $300 million verdict for PanOptis against Apple for 4G LTE technology, a $240 million damages award for StreamScale against Cloudera for erasure coding patents, and over $500 million in jury verdicts for USAA in cases against Wells Fargo and PNC Bank concerning mobile remote deposit capture technology. On the defense side, he has successfully reversed a $2.5 billion patent verdict post-trial in a medicinal chemistry matter and obtained a dismissal with prejudice of an antitrust and unfair competition suit against PanOptis.

His experience also extends to Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings, where he achieved a perfect 29-0 record on behalf of a client owning fundamental USB charging patents and successfully defeated an IPR challenge, leading to a judgment with damages exceeding $145 million that was affirmed on appeal.
