James M. Glass

James M. Glass is a prominent patent litigation attorney and the Chair of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan's Post-Grant patent practice, where his work encompasses district court litigation, ITC proceedings, and an extensive focus on post-grant proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). He is recognized for handling complex technologies including smartphone, Wi-Fi, semiconductor fabrication, circuitry, networking, graphical user interfaces, online advertising, and medical device technologies.

He has also defended Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. in Xifi Networks R&D, Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. et al. concerning Wi-Fi 7 technology and represented Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp as a defendant in a patent dispute over modular storage systems that was voluntarily dismissed. On the plaintiff side, he represented Cloud Byte LLC in litigation against Dell Technologies, Inc. involving networking and storage technologies. Glass successfully defended NantWorks against a series of IPR petitions from Bank of America, securing patentability findings affirmed by the Federal Circuit, and similarly defended Juul Labs, Inc. in IPRs against Njoy LLC, where most petitions were denied institution or claims found patentable after trial. He was also lead counsel for Google in a patent infringement case related to online advertising technology, securing a unanimous jury verdict of non-infringement and invalidity, which was fully affirmed by the Federal Circuit.

His expertise extends to appellate advocacy at the Federal Circuit, where he has successfully defended trial wins, and he is admitted to practice before the USPTO. Glass is a New York-barred attorney, having been admitted in 1999 after graduating from Hofstra University School of Law in 1998.
