Henry Y. Huang

Henry Y. Huang is a Partner in White & Case's Silicon Valley office, specializing in patent and trade secret disputes within the firm's Global Intellectual Property Practice. He focuses on defending clients in patent litigation, demonstrating a clear preference for the defendant side, as indicated by his track record and firm profile. His practice spans a diverse range of technology areas, including software, consumer electronics, pharmaceuticals, spatial biology instruments, security software, and electronic components.

Throughout his career, Mr. Huang has developed extensive experience in all aspects of federal litigation, from initial claims assessment and motions practice to electronic discovery, claim construction (Markman) hearings, depositions, and trials. A notable success includes his role as a lead partner in a White & Case team that secured a summary judgment ruling for Microsoft in a long-running, high-stakes patent suit brought by Corel. This case, involving software patents related to graphical user interfaces, saw Corel seeking US$4.6 billion in damages, with the White & Case team ultimately achieving the invalidation of the final asserted patent claims as obvious, resolving all claims in Microsoft's favor. He has also defended clients in patent litigation involving spatial biology instruments, security software, and electronic components for consumer devices, and represented an appellant in patent litigation concerning ocular implants for drug delivery.

Mr. Huang is also active in post-grant proceedings, having litigated cases before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and guided clients through multiple appeals to the Federal Circuit. His experience also includes handling trade dress and trade secret disputes. He is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia, as well as before the U.S. District Courts for the Central and Northern Districts of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Huang earned his J.D. with Distinction from Stanford Law School and an A.B. in History and Science with an emphasis in Chemistry from Harvard University.
