Heath A. Brooks

Heath A. Brooks is an Of Counsel attorney at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, specializing in intellectual property litigation. His practice encompasses a wide range of technological fields, including internet content delivery networks, wireless communications, tire pressure monitoring systems, semiconductors, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals.

Brooks has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent disputes. While his tracked appearance includes defending Cisco Systems, Inc. in VirnetX Inc. v. Cisco Systems, Inc., his broader experience at WilmerHale demonstrates work on both sides of the docket. For instance, he has represented plaintiffs in patent litigations involving wireless technology, securing a verdict of over $100 million, and achieving a record settlement of more than $2 billion in a patent litigation related to gastroesophageal reflux disease. He also played a role in the Centripetal Networks, Inc. v. Cisco Systems, Inc. appeal, which resulted in the Federal Circuit reversing a multi-billion dollar patent judgment against Cisco.

He possesses extensive experience in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), including briefing and oral arguments. His IPR experience includes successfully confirming patentability for challenged claims related to internet content delivery networks and securing a final written decision of unpatentability in an IPR concerning medical catheters.

Brooks earned his JD cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2003 and his BA summa cum laude from West Virginia University in 2000. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New York.
