H. Albert Liou

H. Albert Liou is a seasoned patent litigation attorney and a Partner in the Intellectual Property practice at Jones Day, based in Houston. He brings over 17 years of experience litigating patent and trade secret cases through trial and appeal.

Mr. Liou's practice spans a broad range of technologies, including computer software, semiconductor, fintech, manufacturing, and petrochemical industries. His experience includes representing clients in complex, high-stakes disputes. While one tracked case, Sila Nanotechnologies, Inc. et al. v. Carbon ONE New Energy Group Co., Ltd. et al., shows him acting as counsel for the plaintiff, his broader firm profile highlights extensive experience defending global companies. Notably, he served as lead trial counsel for Synopsys Inc. in competitor patent litigation, secured dismissals for American Honda Motor Company, Inc. in multiple patent infringement actions, and helped NXP Semiconductors obtain voluntary dismissal in an RFID patent infringement case. He also filed a patent infringement declaratory judgment action on behalf of SAP America concerning computer software.

In addition to district court litigation, Mr. Liou has significant experience in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), regularly representing clients in these matters.
