Gianni Cutri

Gianni Cutri is a partner at Kirkland & Ellis whose practice focuses on high-stakes patent and trade secret litigation. His technical specialties include semiconductors, telecommunications, computer hardware, 3-D imaging, and healthcare software. He has led cases in major patent venues, including the Eastern District of Texas, the District of Delaware, and the Northern District of California, as well as Section 337 investigations at the International Trade Commission and appeals to the Federal Circuit.

While the tracked case list shows a single appearance on the defense side, Mr. Cutri's broader practice involves representing both plaintiffs and defendants. His clients have included notable technology companies such as Intel, Cisco, Motorola, and Sharp. On the plaintiff side, he was lead counsel for EagleView Technologies in a patent case that resulted in a $125 million jury verdict, which was later trebled to $375 million. For the defense, he secured a non-infringement judgment for a client in a case brought by Wi-LAN, which was subsequently deemed an "exceptional case" with an award of over $3 million in legal fees for his client.

Mr. Cutri has significant experience before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), where he has served as lead counsel in numerous successful inter partes review (IPR) proceedings. For example, in the EagleView matter, he successfully defended against more than a dozen IPR challenges, preserving 124 of 125 asserted claims.

Mr. Cutri is a partner based in Kirkland & Ellis's Chicago office. He received his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2000 and was admitted to the bar the same year.
