Geoff Culbertson

Geoffrey P. Culbertson is a Partner at Patton, Tidwell & Culbertson, L.L.P., with a practice focused on intellectual property litigation. The firm emphasizes complex civil and commercial litigation, including patent infringement matters, for both individuals and corporations.

Mr. Culbertson's patent litigation experience spans both sides of the docket, having served as Counsel for Plaintiff in one tracked case and as local counsel on the defendant side in another. His work involves technology areas related to data transmission and DisplayPort standards, as evidenced by his involvement in the Intel Corp. et al. v. General Video LLC matter. In related litigation, he has represented General Video, LLC, a plaintiff asserting six data transmission patents against major technology companies in the Eastern District of Texas.

A notable aspect of his practice includes the patent litigation campaign initiated by General Video LLC, asserting patents concerning DisplayPort standard-compliant products like laptop computers, monitors, and graphics cards, against defendants such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, and ASUSTEK. These cases have led to challenges, including Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs) filed by defendants like Intel Corp. against General Video's asserted patents. For example, one such case, General Video, LLC v. Dell Technologies, Inc., was transferred from the Eastern District of Texas to the Western District of Texas.

Mr. Culbertson is admitted to practice in Texas and Arkansas, as well as before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and various U.S. District Courts in Texas and Arkansas. He earned his B.S. from Southern Methodist University in 1993 and his J.D. from Baylor Law School in 2004, where he served as Editor in Chief of the Baylor Law Review. Following law school, he clerked as a Briefing Attorney for the Honorable Thad Heartfield in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
