Gang Chen

Gang Chen is a partner at Crowell & Moring LLP, based in Chicago, where he focuses on patent litigation, prosecution, and broader intellectual property counseling for corporate clients. His practice encompasses a wide array of sophisticated technologies, leveraging his academic background in physics and electrical engineering. He handles matters involving semiconductors, wireless and wireline communications, video/audio processing, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, advanced optical technologies, software, hardware, and mechanical and electrical systems.

In his litigation practice, Mr. Chen represents defendants in patent disputes, as evidenced by his tracked appearance as Lead Counsel for the defendant in one case. He is also highly active in federal courts, International Trade Commission (ITC) Section 337 investigations, and post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), including inter partes reviews (IPRs) and post-grant reviews (PGRs). Beyond litigation, he advises clients on IP due diligence, portfolio management, licensing, and patent prosecution strategies.

Prior to joining Crowell & Moring, Mr. Chen was with Brinks Gilson & Lione, which merged with Crowell & Moring in July 2021. Before his legal career, he gained extensive research and development experience at Bell Labs of Lucent Technologies.

Mr. Chen earned his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a B.S. in Physics from Beijing University. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
