Eugene M. Goryunov is an experienced patent litigation attorney with a strong focus on complex patent matters across diverse technologies. His practice encompasses federal court litigation, Section 337 investigations at the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC), and appeals before the Federal Circuit. His technology expertise spans consumer goods, high technology, networking, wireless telephony, medical devices, therapeutics, computers, software, and pharmaceuticals, leveraging his background as a former software engineer. He also advises clients on patent prosecution, portfolio management, and litigation related to artificial intelligence.

Goryunov is particularly recognized for his extensive experience in post-grant review (PGR) trials, including Inter Partes Reviews (IPR), before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). He regularly serves as first-chair trial counsel in these proceedings for both petitioners and patent owners, having participated in more than 500 USPTO proceedings and nearly 200 trials. Notably, he filed some of the first-ever IPR petitions and co-founded the PTAB Bar Association. He is also the author of "The Trial Lawyer's Guide to Post Grant Patent Proceedings".

Early in his career, Mr. Goryunov appeared as of counsel for the defendant side in Uniloc Luxembourg S.A. v. Twitter, Inc. while at Keker & Van Nest (now Keker, Van Nest & Peters LLP). He was previously a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he was instrumental in developing the firm's post-grant review practice. Currently, he is the IPR Team Lead and an Administrative Partner in the Chicago office of Haynes and Boone, LLP.

Mr. Goryunov earned his B.S. in Computer Science from DePaul University in 2001 and his J.D. from the University of Illinois Chicago, John Marshall Law School, in 2008. He was admitted to practice in Illinois in 2008 and is also admitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
