Erin Beaton

Erin Beaton is an associate in Alston & Bird's Intellectual Property Litigation Group, where she focuses on complex patent disputes. She has significant experience across district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Beaton's practice involves a diverse array of technologies, including 4G and 5G standards, networking, semiconductors, automotive systems, medical devices, advanced materials, content distribution networks, voice recognition systems, and DSL technologies.

Beaton represents both plaintiffs and defendants, demonstrating a balanced practice across both sides of patent litigation. Her experience includes defending global technology corporations against infringement claims, prosecuting cases for manufacturers of specialized materials, and representing major telecommunications and technology companies in declaratory judgment actions. Notable engagements include her work on Pegasus Wireless Innovation LLC v. Unknown Defendant and Ford Motor Company v. Massachusetts Institute of Technology et al., as well as securing a favorable trial verdict in TQ Delta v. CommScope involving DSL technologies. She has also represented a leading medical device manufacturer in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings concerning heart rate monitoring technology.

Her PTAB experience is further highlighted by her role in assisting clients with strategic approaches to patent disputes before the board and co-authoring Alston & Bird's weekly Patent Case Summaries, which include PTAB opinions.

Beaton earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law in 2022, and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from North Carolina State University (2019). She is admitted to practice in North Carolina and is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
