Erick S. Robinson

Erick S. Robinson is an experienced patent litigator and IP strategist with a technical background spanning computer science, electronics, and biotechnology. He focuses on "bet-the-business" patent cases, managing disputes across federal district courts, including the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, California, and Delaware, as well as the International Trade Commission (ITC). His practice also extends to multi-jurisdictional litigation in countries such as China, Germany, France, Brazil, Vietnam, and Singapore, and he has presented on Standard Essential Patent (SEP) licensing and litigation. Robinson also handles patent monetization and licensing, trade secret disputes, and has a particular interest in AI technologies and the law of AI. Much of his patent litigation is conducted on a contingency fee basis.

Robinson represents clients on both the plaintiff and defendant sides, ranging from Fortune 100 companies to individual inventors. He is known for advocating on behalf of innovators against infringers of all sizes, including large technology companies. His professional experience includes significant involvement in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), where he focuses on PTAB defense, including securing institution denials.

Currently, Mr. Robinson is a Partner and Chair of Patent Litigation and Legal Finance at Bochner PLLC. His prior firm affiliations include Spencer Fane, where he served as Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Practice Group, and Brown Rudnick, where he was co-chair of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board practice group. Before his roles in private practice, he held in-house positions as Director of Patents for Qualcomm and Senior Patent Counsel at Red Hat, and also served as Director of Patent Litigation at a leading Chinese law firm. His work in China earned recognition, with a 2019 case named one of the top 10 patent market developments worldwide by IAM.

Robinson earned his Juris Doctor from The University of Texas School of Law and holds a bachelor's degree from Pomona College. He was admitted to practice in Texas in 2003 and is also licensed in New York. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, among other federal courts.
