Elliot Hales

Elliot Hales is a Partner at Dorsey & Whitney, where he focuses his practice on intellectual property disputes, including patent infringement litigation and post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He also handles domestic and international trademark disputes. Hales represents clients across a diverse range of industries, with experience litigating in various U.S. District Courts and the International Trade Commission.

Hales has demonstrated a strong aptitude for defending clients in patent infringement matters. His experience includes successfully representing defendants in litigation, as evidenced by his role in Tricam Industries LLC v. Little Giant Ladder Systems LLC. In this case, concerning multi-position ladder technology, Hales secured a dismissal of the infringement action with prejudice for Tricam at the district court level, a decision later affirmed by the Federal Circuit in February 2026. His professional experience also includes securing favorable settlements in copyright infringement claims, achieving a Federal Circuit reversal of a summary judgment on false advertising, and obtaining a pre-trial settlement in an ITC investigation involving child carrier products.

He is experienced in post-grant proceedings before the USPTO, indicating his involvement in Inter Partes Review (IPR) and other Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) matters.
