Dennis J. Courtney

Dennis J. Courtney is a Partner at Lowenstein & Weatherwax LLP, specializing in patent litigation across federal district and appellate courts, as well as inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). His practice encompasses a range of technologies, including semiconductors, network security hardware and software, power management in mobile devices, smartphone interfaces, biotechnology for small molecule identification, and aerospace manufacturing.

Courtney's litigation experience demonstrates a focus on defending operating companies and patent owners against challenges. He has served as backup counsel in district court cases, including an "Untitled case" on the plaintiff side and twice on the defendant side in actions brought by Unified Patents, LLC against Radian Memory Systems LLC. In PTAB proceedings, he frequently represents patent owners, contributing to successful outcomes such as obtaining Director Review and denial of institution for MOSAID Technologies Inc., along with two additional non-institutions. He has also represented patent owners such as Neural AI, LLC, Adeia Guides Inc., DivX, LLC, Qomplx LLC, and Infineon Technologies Americas Corp. against petitioners like NVIDIA, Disney, Amazon, and others. Mr. Courtney earned his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, and holds a Ph.D. in mathematics and a B.A. with highest honors in mathematics from UC Berkeley.
