David Sochia

David Sochia is a seasoned trial lawyer and the Managing Principal and Chairman of McKool Smith, where he has practiced since September 2000. His practice is primarily focused on high-stakes patent litigation and complex commercial disputes. Sochia handles cases across a diverse range of technologies, including computer hardware and software, financial services, semiconductor manufacturing, wireless devices, and network- and social media-centric technologies.

While Sochia's tracked case shows an appearance on the plaintiff side, and he is recognized among Lawdragon's "Leading Global Plaintiff Lawyers," his firm profile indicates that he represents both plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts. Throughout his career, Sochia has been involved in several notable patent litigation matters. He was Lead Counsel for Personalized Media Communications, LLC in a case against Google LLC, which saw its Federal Circuit appeal for a signal processing patent voluntarily dismissed in January 2024, suggesting a resolution between the parties. Previously, he helped TGIP, Inc. secure a nine-figure jury verdict of willful infringement against AT&T concerning prepaid calling card patents. He also represented i2 Technologies as a plaintiff against SAP in a patent infringement case that settled after a Markman hearing. On the defense side, he successfully secured a stipulation of non-infringement for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and defended Xerox Corp., Conduent Inc., and New Jersey Transit Corp. in a dispute involving patent infringement and other commercial claims. He has also served as lead counsel for Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in multi-patent cases against Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat.

Sochia also has experience in Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings, representing petitioners such as TSMC.
