David S. Chun

David S. Chun is a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, where his practice focuses on litigating patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and copyright infringement matters. He represents both foreign and domestic clients across a diverse array of technologies, including semiconductor and flash memory, wireless mobile devices, digital signal processing for hearing aid devices, on-line gaming, software interfaces, medical devices, and business methods. Chun primarily works on the defense side for operating companies, as demonstrated by his lead counsel role in a recent patent infringement suit against LG Electronics.

His notable case experience includes serving as lead counsel for LG Electronics in Velocity Communication Technologies, LLC v. LG Electronics, a case in the Eastern District of Texas involving patents related to the Wi-Fi 6 standard. He has also represented a leading medical device company in a trade secret misappropriation dispute involving analytics hardware and software, and a display panel technology company in litigation and licensing disputes concerning OLED and LCD technology. Additionally, Chun defended a chemical equipment manufacturer in a patent infringement lawsuit over chemical-mechanical-polishing technology and successfully secured a jury verdict of unjust enrichment and unfair business practices for a medical institution, which was upheld on appeal.

Chun is part of Sheppard Mullin's Intellectual Property practice, which has significant experience before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in inter partes review proceedings. He joined Sheppard Mullin in September 2025 as a partner with a 21-attorney IP litigation team from Ropes & Gray LLP. Chun earned his J.D. from Pace University's Elisabeth Haub School of Law and an LL.M. from The George Washington University Law School. He was admitted to the State Bar of California on July 17, 2017.
