He has also secured favorable settlements, including substantial royalty payments, for a major manufacturer of water sports boats in cases concerning wake-surfing technology, and a resolution involving no monetary payment for a video-streaming services provider. He has also defended a Korea-based multinational electronics company in multiple patent cases.
He represents clients before the US Patent & Trademark Office, including serving as first chair at several Inter Partes Review (IPR) hearings. His tracked appearance as Of Counsel for the defendant in I/P Engine, Inc. v. AOL, Inc. et al. (E.D. Va.) resulted in the overturning of the prior judgment of patent infringement on appeal, and subsequent vacation of orders and judgments on supplemental damages and ongoing royalties.
Mr. Almeling is admitted to the State Bar of California (2004). He earned his J.D. with high honors from Duke University, where he was a note editor for the Duke Law Journal and a member of the Order of the Coif. He received his B.A. in Political Science with highest honors from the University of Florida, graduating as valedictorian and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
