Daniel J. Melman is an experienced intellectual property litigation and trial attorney focusing on complex patent, trade secret, and other IP matters across diverse technologies. His technical background includes a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from NYU Tandon School of Engineering, complementing his legal practice which spans areas such as telecommunications, biotechnology, computer hardware and software, medical and electro-mechanical devices, financial services, and AI neural network technology. He earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from St. John's University School of Law. Mr. Melman is admitted to the New York Bar, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Second Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Eastern District of Texas.

Mr. Melman represents both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement actions. While the tracked case, ABC IP, LLC v. WIDE OPEN ENTERPRISES LLC et al., shows a plaintiff-side appearance where he acted as Lead Counsel, his broader practice includes defending clients against claims of infringement and enforcing intellectual property assets. He is currently a Partner in the Litigation Group at Pearl Cohen's New York office, a position he has held since rejoining the firm, having previously been with Pearl Cohen and then Eckert Seamans. Earlier in his career, he was also associated with McKool Smith, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP.

His notable case work includes representing plaintiff On Track Innovations Ltd. in a successful patent infringement suit concerning near field communication and mobile devices, which settled favorably following a Markman decision and summary judgment of infringement. He also successfully represented respondents Estar Technologies, Ltd. and Eclipse MedCorp, LLC in an International Trade Commission investigation (Inv. 337-TA-1147) involving blood separation devices, which terminated after the Commission's Investigative Staff agreed the asserted patent was invalid and not infringed. In the PTAB, Mr. Melman represented the patentee in Apple Inc. v. Blix, Inc. IPR2020-01635, where the petition was fully dismissed on the merits. Additionally, he acted as lead counsel for plaintiff patentee Syte – Visual Conception Ltd. in multiple parallel litigations over computer visual search and AI neural network technology, all of which settled on favorable terms.
