Christine Morgan

Christine Morgan is a highly experienced patent litigator with a focus on complex technology disputes, particularly those involving software and computer-related innovations. She is recognized for her expertise in litigating Section 101 patent eligibility, often defending clients against claims involving "abstract" software patents. Her practice spans various technology sectors including video game publishing, fintech, ride sharing, cybersecurity, electronic trading, consumer hardware and electronics, Wi-Fi semiconductors, mobile printers, healthcare software and hardware, and wireless security.

While she has stated that she handles matters for both plaintiffs and defendants, her tracked appearances and notable successes prominently feature defense-side representation for operating companies. As of May 2026, Ms. Morgan is a partner on the Patent Litigation Team at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP in San Francisco. Prior to this, she was an Of Counsel at Reed Smith, where her sole tracked appearance took place.

A significant case in her portfolio is In re Centripetal Networks, LLC, where, as part of the Reed Smith team, she represented Keysight Technologies, Inc. This multi-forum litigation involved patent infringement allegations related to network threat detection, SSL/TLS proxy technology, and network security software and hardware. In this matter, Reed Smith secured Federal Circuit affirmances of U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) decisions finding no infringement and favorable Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) inter partes review (IPR) decisions, which invalidated numerous patent claims. Her experience includes trials in prominent U.S. patent litigation venues, such as the Eastern District of Texas, the Northern District of California, the Eastern District of Virginia, the ITC, and the PTAB.

Ms. Morgan earned her J.D., cum laude, from Santa Clara University School of Law and holds a B.S. in Managerial and Agricultural Economics from the University of California, Davis. She was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1993. She also contributes to legal education by teaching a law school class on litigating Section 101 patent eligibility at Santa Clara University School of Law.
