Chad E. Davis

Chad E. Davis, Ph.D., is a patent litigation attorney and partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, based in Boston. His practice focuses on intellectual property strategy, patent counseling, and portfolio development, guiding clients from early-stage invention through worldwide patent prosecution, due diligence, and post-grant proceedings. Dr. Davis possesses a strong technical background with a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, enabling him to advise on a wide array of technologies. His specialty areas include pharmaceuticals, drug delivery systems, polymers, proteins and antibodies, stem cell and diagnostic technologies, microfluidics, medical imaging, analytical chemistry, cosmetics, and optical systems.

While his practice broadly encompasses strategic IP advisory roles, his tracked litigation experience includes defending operating companies. He appeared as Back-up Counsel for the defendant, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., in Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. v. Longhorn Automotive Group LLC. This case, initiated by a patent assertion entity regarding automotive patents related to driver assistance systems and headlights, was ultimately dismissed with prejudice in March 2026. Before joining Morgan Lewis, Dr. Davis was a partner at Dechert.

Dr. Davis’s experience extends to post-grant proceedings, and the firm highlights its extensive experience with Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings at the USPTO. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He earned his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 2007, and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 2003.
