Celine Jimenez Crowson

Celine Jimenez Crowson is a prominent patent litigation attorney and the head of Hogan Lovells' Intellectual Property, Media & Technology (IPMT) practice in the Americas. With a technical background in electrical engineering, her practice focuses on complex patent disputes across a range of technologies, including mobile devices and communication technologies, electronic consumer products, mapping and navigation, semiconductor chip technologies, automotive and smart home technologies, battery technologies, and medical devices. Her experience includes handling significant patent litigations for major automotive OEMs and leading technology companies.

Ms. Crowson primarily represents defendants, particularly operating companies, in high-stakes patent infringement actions in U.S. district courts and the International Trade Commission (ITC). Her track record reflects a strong defense-side focus, with all recorded appearances as lead counsel for defendants. Notably, she achieved a complete victory as lead trial counsel for Mercedes-Benz in one of its U.S. patent infringement trials. She also secured unanimous defense jury verdicts of non-infringement and invalidity for all asserted patents for clients such as Google and LG in a Western District of Texas litigation, and for PPG Industries in another patent infringement case.

Her notable caseload includes serving as lead counsel for Mercedes-Benz AG in the ongoing Mimzi, LLC v. Mercedes-Benz AG litigation, which involves connected vehicle technology and data retrieval systems. This case is part of a broader series of patent infringement actions against automakers concerning collision warning, pedestrian/vehicle detection, and automatic braking systems.

In addition to district court and ITC litigation, Ms. Crowson is deeply involved in U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) patent challenge practice, including Inter Partes Review (IPR) and Post-Grant Review (PGR) proceedings. She has been counsel for Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC in IPR proceedings and led IPRs for a prolific automotive OEM petitioner in 2023. She also handled the trial for the first-ever instituted Post Grant Review proceeding at the USPTO. She earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law.
