Brian P. Boyd

Brian P. Boyd is a Principal at Fish & Richardson, focusing his practice on high-stakes patent and trade secret litigation across U.S. district courts and before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). An electrical engineer by training, he leverages this background to handle complex technologies including integrated circuits, computer architecture, semiconductor device fabrication, smartphones, communications standards (e.g., cellular, Wi-Fi, and "Internet of Things"), digital imaging, networking, security, e-commerce, and GPS.

While Boyd has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants, his tracked case and several examples from his firm profile indicate a strong emphasis on defending operating companies in patent infringement disputes. For instance, he served as counsel for Samsung in Smart Mobile Technologies LLC v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. et al., a patent infringement case in the Western District of Texas concerning mobile communications and wireless networking, which concluded in a dismissal with prejudice via a negotiated resolution. He also defended Samsung in an ITC investigation involving wireless communication devices and represented BlackBerry in a patent infringement suit concerning BlackBerry devices.
