Prior to joining Desmarais LLP in 2016, Mr. Matty gained experience in patent prosecution and portfolio management as a patent agent and associate at Ropes & Gray.

Mr. Matty possesses extensive experience in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). He served as lead counsel for biotech firm Ravgen, successfully defending its patents against ten inter partes review petitions and securing decisions upholding all challenged claims. He further argued appeals of these IPRs at the Federal Circuit, again achieving decisions affirming the patentability of all Ravgen patents.

He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in biomedical engineering from the University of Michigan in 2008 and 2009, respectively, and his Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law in 2014.
