Brian Drummond

Brian Drummond is a partner in Goodwin Procter's Intellectual Property Litigation practice, with a focus on patent matters in the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology sectors. He is an editor and contributor to the firm's biosimilars blog, Big Molecule Watch, demonstrating his deep engagement in life sciences disputes. His practice also encompasses patent infringement litigation related to other technologies, such as digital outdoor displays.

Throughout his career, Mr. Drummond has primarily represented defendants, including operating companies, in complex patent infringement cases. This aligns with his tracked appearance on the defendant side and Goodwin Procter's noted strength in acting for generic pharmaceutical manufacturers in Hatch-Waxman and biologics litigation. He has participated in all phases of patent litigation, from pre-suit investigations and discovery to federal court trials and appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Drummond is based in Goodwin Procter's Boston office, having joined the firm in 2013. Prior to his tenure at Goodwin, he was an associate at Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear, LLP.

His notable case experience includes representing Teva in the In re: Copaxone 40mg Consolidated Cases (D. Del.), a patent infringement litigation against five generic manufacturers concerning glatiramer acetate, currently on appeal to the Federal Circuit. He also represented Cephalon, Inc. in In re Bendamustine Consolidated Litigation (D. Del.), where the District Court of Delaware ruled in Cephalon's favor, upholding patent validity and finding infringement following a six-day bench trial, a decision also under appeal to the Federal Circuit. Additionally, he has defended clients in Manufacturing Resources Int'l, Inc. v. Civiq Smartscapes, LLC et al. (D. Del.).

Mr. Drummond is experienced in post-grant proceedings, having been involved in preparing petitions for inter partes review (IPR) and defending clients in IPR proceedings. He is a member of the Boston Bar Association.
