Brett Christopher Govett

Brett Christopher Govett is a seasoned patent litigation attorney and a Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP, where he has practiced since joining the firm (then Fulbright & Jaworski) in 1991 and becoming a partner in 1999. His practice focuses on intellectual property, particularly patent infringement disputes, and he is noted for handling matters across various sectors, including technology, artificial intelligence, life sciences, healthcare, and retail.

Govett primarily represents defendants in patent disputes, with four out of five tracked appearances on the defendant side. A notable case includes representing defendants Teso LT, UAB, Metacluster LT, UAB, and Oxysales, UAB in Bright Data, Ltd. v. Teso LT, UAB et al. (E.D. Texas). In that case, while a jury found infringement and awarded lost profits, the court subsequently denied the plaintiff's motion for preliminary and permanent injunction.

His experience also extends to post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), as evidenced by his appearances in IPR2022-00135 and IPR2020-01266. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Govett earned his Bachelor of Chemistry cum laude from The Citadel in 1987 and his Juris Doctor cum laude from Texas Tech University in 1990. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1990 and is also admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
