Brandon Hugh Brown

Brandon H. Brown is a patent litigation attorney and partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, specializing in high-tech patent, trade secret, and copyright intellectual property litigation. He has extensive experience in U.S. Federal Courts and at the International Trade Commission. With a strong technical background in computer science, Mr. Brown handles a wide array of technologies, including flash memory, cellular phone technology, microchip manufacturing, integrated circuits, operating system design, digital two-way radio technology, computer vision, and Wi-Fi standards.

Mr. Brown represents operating companies and has experience on both the plaintiff and defendant sides of litigation, successfully leading trial teams to jury and bench trial victories. Notably, he was part of the team that secured a $764 million jury verdict for Motorola Solutions LLC in a trade secret misappropriation suit against Hytera Corp., which was later adjusted to over $500 million. He also served as lead counsel for an agricultural and industrial equipment manufacturer, achieving a $16.3 million jury award for patent infringement that increased to $375 million post-trial. In another matter, he secured a $125 million willful infringement verdict for a computer vision startup and represented a video game and entertainment technology manufacturer in a case that concluded with an arbitrator's non-infringement finding. His work has earned him recognition, including being named "Litigator of the Week" twice by American Lawyer.

As lead counsel, Mr. Brown represented Red Hat, Inc. as a plaintiff in Red Hat, Inc. v. VirtaMove, Corp., a patent infringement dispute concerning containerization and shared-library systems. The Federal Circuit appeal in this case was voluntarily dismissed by mutual agreement, without a ruling on the merits. While his practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, there is no publicly available information detailing his regular appearance in IPR or PTAB proceedings.

Mr. Brown was admitted to the California Bar in 2009. He earned his J.D. from the University of California Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 2009 and a B.A. cum laude in Computer Science and Criminal Justice from Boston University in 2006.
