A registered patent attorney, Hattenbach regularly handles contested proceedings, such as inter partes reviews (IPRs), before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in addition to litigating before federal and state courts, and the U.S. International Trade Commission. He provides strategic guidance on patent portfolio management, licensing, and acquisitions.

Hattenbach was admitted to the California Bar in 1996 and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Northern, and Southern Districts of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He earned his law degree from UC Berkeley School of Law.
