Arne M. Olson

Arne M. Olson is a seasoned patent litigation attorney and a co-founder of Olson & Cepuritis, Ltd., established in 1986 in Chicago, Illinois. His practice encompasses a broad range of intellectual property matters, including patent, trademark, trade secret, and unfair competition litigation and licensing. Mr. Olson handles cases across diverse technological fields, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, computer software, lasers and optics, as well as mechanical technologies such as surgical devices, window blinds, and complex machinery. He also advises clients on FDA regulatory and compliance issues.

Based on tracked appearances, Mr. Olson has served as Lead Counsel on the plaintiff side in patent litigation. In this capacity, he represented North Sails Group, LLC in NORTH SAILS GROUP, LLC et al. v. Team New Zealand Ltd. This particular matter was a Post-Grant Review (PGR) proceeding at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), identified as PGR2025-00062, where the petition for institution was denied on January 9, 2026.

Mr. Olson has extensive experience with proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This includes handling patent interferences and appeals, as well as numerous oppositions and appeals in trademark matters globally. His involvement in the NORTH SAILS GROUP PGR case further highlights his experience in challenging patent validity at the PTAB.

Mr. Olson earned his A.B. in Physics from the University of Chicago and his J.D., with honors, from DePaul University. He is admitted to practice in Illinois, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and in several U.S. Courts of Appeals, including the Federal Circuit, Third Circuit, Seventh Circuit, and Ninth Circuit. Prior to Olson & Cepuritis, Ltd., he was also affiliated with Olson & Hierl, Ltd.
