April L. Abele Isaacson

April L. Abele Isaacson is a highly experienced patent litigator with a career spanning over three decades, specializing in a diverse range of technology areas. Her practice has encompassed patent and related regulatory disputes across life sciences, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices, with significant experience in Hatch-Waxman litigations. She also has extensive experience in patent cases involving computer and telecommunications hardware and software, as well as semiconductors, data storage, and other electronic technologies. Isaacson has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes matters, trying cases in federal courts nationwide and arguing appeals before the Federal Circuit. The single tracked appearance shows her serving as local counsel for the defendant SoundHound AI, Inc. in VB Assets, LLC v. SoundHound AI, Inc., handled through Perkins Coie.

Prior to her current engagements, Ms. Isaacson spent nearly 30 years as a trial attorney at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, most recently as the Managing Partner of their San Francisco office, from which she retired. Her tenure at Kilpatrick Townsend included a previous period at a predecessor firm. She also served as a partner at another major international law firm and spent nearly five years as in-house counsel at a public specialty pharmaceutical company, where she managed numerous Hatch-Waxman litigations and provided comprehensive intellectual property and regulatory counseling.

Her litigation experience extends to post-grant proceedings, having handled matters before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Ms. Isaacson earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1995, an M.S. in pharmacological and physiological sciences from the University of Chicago in 1990, and an A.B. in biological sciences, cum laude, from Mount Holyoke College in 1988. She is a registered U.S. patent attorney and admitted to practice in California.
