Anna Shabalov

Anna Shabalov is a partner in the Pittsburgh office of K&L Gates, where her practice is concentrated on intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, and copyright infringement, unfair competition, false advertising, and trade secret misappropriation. Her experience spans various sectors, including entertainment, music, education, software, industrial, consumer goods, and non-profit organizations. The firm's broader patent litigation practice covers diverse technologies such as electrical, software, mechanical, chemical, and pharmaceutical disciplines. She earned her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2013 and her B.A. from Harvard University in 2010. She is admitted to the Bar of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Shabalov has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent disputes. Based on tracked appearances, she has defended clients in three cases while appearing on the plaintiff side in one. A notable example is her involvement in Massively Broadband LLC v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. et al. (2:25-cv-00608), a patent infringement case filed in the Eastern District of Texas where she initially appeared for defendant Samsung while at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, and later for Massively Broadband LLC at K&L Gates. This case concerned the alleged infringement of a dozen patents related to Intelligent Wireless Broadband Relay, Smart Antenna, and Network Monitoring technologies. Her broader experience also includes the successful settlement of a multi-patent infringement case and winning motions to dismiss in inventorship claims.

Her practice also encompasses experience with proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). She has appeared in the inter partes review (IPR) cases Unified Patents v. Massively Broadband LLC, including IPR2026-00086 and IPR2025-01565, which involved challenges to Massively Broadband's wireless network quality and other patents. In addition to patent litigation, Ms. Shabalov counsels clients on IP procurement and portfolio management, licensing agreements, and trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the USPTO.
