Angela Oliver

Angela Oliver is a highly regarded patent litigation attorney and Partner at Haynes Boone, focusing her practice extensively on intellectual property, technology, and appellate matters. Her litigation practice demonstrates a clear specialization in challenging patent validity, primarily representing plaintiffs such as Unified Patents LLC. This includes handling cases related to semiconductors, OLED display technology, video streaming, wireless communications (Wi-Fi standards), computer hardware and software, and messaging systems.

Oliver is particularly adept at appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, where she has argued numerous cases and has been recognized by Patexia's CAFC Intelligence Report as a top-performing and active attorney. Her work frequently involves defending operating companies against assertions by non-practicing entities (NPEs) by invalidating patents. She played a key role in a Federal Circuit victory for Unified Patents, which upheld a PTAB decision invalidating a DivX patent on adaptive bitrate streaming technology. She also contributed to a Federal Circuit affirmance for Unified Patents in an appeal invalidating a VideoLabs Collective patent. Prior to joining Haynes Boone, Oliver served as a law clerk to then-Chief Judge Prost of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Judge Rodney Gilstrap of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Her practice encompasses significant experience before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), where she regularly assists clients with inter partes review (IPR) and post-grant review (PGR) proceedings, including drafting petitions, responding to patent owner arguments, and presenting oral arguments. She is an active member of the PTAB Bar Association, serving as Vice Chair of the Trials Committee.
